Description
Learn how to make yogurt at home with just two ingredients. This creamy, tangy yogurt is perfect for breakfast or as a snack.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups Milk (Whole milk is recommended for creaminess.)
- 1/2 cup Plain yogurt with live cultures (Make sure it contains active cultures.)
Instructions
- In a saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until it reaches 180°F (82°C). Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
- Remove the milk from heat and let it cool to 110°F (43°C). You can use a kitchen thermometer to check the temperature.
- In a small bowl, mix the plain yogurt with a few tablespoons of the cooled milk until smooth.
- Add the yogurt mixture back into the saucepan with the rest of the cooled milk and stir gently to combine.
- Transfer the mixture to a clean container and cover it with a lid or plastic wrap.
- Place the container in a warm spot (like an oven with the light on) for 6 to 12 hours, depending on how tangy you like your yogurt.
- Once the yogurt has thickened to your liking, transfer it to the refrigerator to chill for at least 2 hours before serving.
Notes
- For thicker yogurt, you can strain it through a cheesecloth after it has set.
- If you want flavored yogurt, you can add honey, fruit, or vanilla after it has chilled.
