  • 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup almond milk
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the honey or maple syrup, applesauce, Greek yogurt, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Combine the wet and dry ingredients, then add the almond milk and mix until just combined. If using, fold in the dark chocolate chips.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
