- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup honey or maple syrup
- 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
- 1/2 cup Greek yogurt
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup almond milk
- 1/2 cup dark chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the whole wheat flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, mix the honey or maple syrup, applesauce, Greek yogurt, eggs, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine the wet and dry ingredients, then add the almond milk and mix until just combined. If using, fold in the dark chocolate chips.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Frost with your favorite healthy frosting or serve with fresh fruit.
