Description
This crispy chicken air fryer recipe results in juicy, tender chicken with a perfectly crispy coating, all made with less oil than traditional frying.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 chicken thighs, bone-in and skin-on
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- Cooking spray or olive oil spray
Instructions
- In a large bowl, soak the chicken thighs in buttermilk for at least 1 hour, or overnight for best results.
- In a separate bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- Remove chicken from buttermilk and let excess drip off. Dredge each piece in the seasoned flour mixture, making sure to coat well.
- Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray. Place the coated chicken thighs in the basket in a single layer, skin side up.
- Spray the tops of the chicken with cooking spray.
- Air fry for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the chicken is golden brown and crispy, and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C).
- Let the chicken rest for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For extra crispy skin, you can double dredge the chicken by dipping it back in buttermilk and then in the flour mixture again.
- Feel free to add your favorite spices to the flour mixture for additional flavor.
- Serve with your choice of dipping sauces or sides.
