Description
This beef shawarma recipe features marinated beef that’s slow-cooked to perfection, served in pita bread with fresh vegetables and a tangy garlic sauce.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 lbs beef flank steak, sliced thinly against the grain
- 1/4 cup olive oil
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 2 tablespoons ground cumin
- 2 tablespoons ground paprika
- 1 tablespoon ground turmeric
- 1 tablespoon ground coriander
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Pita bread, for serving
- Fresh vegetables (tomato, cucumber, onion) for garnish
- Garlic sauce or tahini sauce for drizzling
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine olive oil, yogurt, apple cider vinegar, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
- Add the sliced beef to the marinade and mix well to ensure all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
- Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated beef slices in batches until browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes per side.
- Once cooked, remove the beef from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into smaller pieces.
- To serve, place the cooked beef in pita bread and top with fresh vegetables. Drizzle with garlic sauce or tahini sauce.
Notes
- For best results, marinate the beef overnight.
- Feel free to add pickles or hot sauce for extra flavor.
- This recipe can also be made using chicken or lamb.
