Beef Shawarma: Perfectly Marinated Slow-Cooked Delight in Pita

  • Author: ushinzomr

Description

This beef shawarma recipe features marinated beef that’s slow-cooked to perfection, served in pita bread with fresh vegetables and a tangy garlic sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 lbs beef flank steak, sliced thinly against the grain
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons ground paprika
  • 1 tablespoon ground turmeric
  • 1 tablespoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Pita bread, for serving
  • Fresh vegetables (tomato, cucumber, onion) for garnish
  • Garlic sauce or tahini sauce for drizzling

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine olive oil, yogurt, apple cider vinegar, cumin, paprika, turmeric, coriander, cinnamon, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper.
  2. Add the sliced beef to the marinade and mix well to ensure all pieces are coated. Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour, preferably overnight.
  3. Preheat a grill or a skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated beef slices in batches until browned and cooked through, about 3-5 minutes per side.
  4. Once cooked, remove the beef from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing it into smaller pieces.
  5. To serve, place the cooked beef in pita bread and top with fresh vegetables. Drizzle with garlic sauce or tahini sauce.

Notes

  • For best results, marinate the beef overnight.
  • Feel free to add pickles or hot sauce for extra flavor.
  • This recipe can also be made using chicken or lamb.
