Description

A flavorful and aromatic beef shawarma recipe that brings the taste of Middle Eastern street food right to your kitchen.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 2 teaspoons ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground paprika
  • 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 pita breads or flatbreads
  • 1 cup lettuce, shredded
  • 1 tomato, diced
  • 1/2 cucumber, sliced
  • 1/2 red onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup tahini sauce or garlic sauce

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine olive oil, cumin, coriander, paprika, turmeric, cinnamon, garlic powder, cayenne pepper, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  2. Add the sliced beef to the marinade, ensuring all pieces are coated. Cover and let marinate for at least 30 minutes, or overnight for best flavor.
  3. Heat a large skillet or grill pan over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef in a single layer and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and cooked through.
  4. Remove the beef from the heat and let it rest for a few minutes.
  5. Warm the pita breads or flatbreads in a dry skillet for a minute on each side.
  6. To assemble, place some beef on each pita bread, and top with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and red onion. Drizzle with tahini sauce or garlic sauce.
  7. Roll up the pita breads and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, allow the beef to marinate overnight.
  • Serve with pickles or hot sauce for added kick.
  • Feel free to add your favorite toppings such as olives or feta cheese.
