Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
  • 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
  • 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
  • 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
  • 24 ladyfingers
  • Cocoa powder for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well combined.
  2. Add milk to the mixture and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and let it cool.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
  4. Once the egg mixture is cooled, fold it into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
  5. In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
  6. Layer half of the soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9×9 inch dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
  7. Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
  8. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
  9. Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.

Notes

  • For best results, use high-quality mascarpone cheese.
  • You can substitute coffee liqueur with vanilla extract if desired.
  • Tiramisu can be made a day in advance; it tastes even better the next day.
