Description
This classic Italian dessert is a delicious blend of coffee-soaked ladyfingers and creamy mascarpone cheese, layered to perfection.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 egg yolks
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup milk
- 1 1/4 cups heavy cream
- 8 ounces mascarpone cheese
- 1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
- 2 tablespoons coffee liqueur (optional)
- 24 ladyfingers
- Cocoa powder for dusting
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well combined.
- Add milk to the mixture and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly until it thickens (about 5-7 minutes). Remove from heat and let it cool.
- In a large bowl, beat the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Gently fold in the mascarpone cheese until smooth.
- Once the egg mixture is cooled, fold it into the mascarpone mixture until fully combined.
- In a shallow dish, combine the brewed coffee and coffee liqueur. Quickly dip each ladyfinger into the coffee mixture, ensuring they are soaked but not soggy.
- Layer half of the soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 9×9 inch dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over the ladyfingers.
- Repeat with the remaining ladyfingers and mascarpone mixture.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight.
- Before serving, dust the top with cocoa powder.
Notes
- For best results, use high-quality mascarpone cheese.
- You can substitute coffee liqueur with vanilla extract if desired.
- Tiramisu can be made a day in advance; it tastes even better the next day.
